Is the iPad really worth it?

Most Apple users have very high expectations of the company every time a new device is released. This is especially relevant in today’s high-tech world, where the goal is to have a PC in the palm of your hand that’s easy to use whenever and wherever you need it. The recently released iPad has a lot of extra features that can classify it as a definite upgrade from the iPhone, however, a few key features of the iPad made me wonder if it’s really worth it.

First of all, it doesn’t have USB ports. This means that no additional hardware or additional data storage device has been designed for this new device. Also, despite optional data plans and 3G access being offered, AT&T is still the only data plan iPad users can use, which is also the case for iPhone users.

After purchasing a device that costs much more than a laptop, one would expect to be able to access and use at least two applications at the same time. The iPad only allows you to use one app at a time. For example, if you are browsing the web, you will not be able to use any word processing programs. This is inconvenient for people who want to have a laptop and check information on the web while writing research papers, articles, etc.

While this innovation is great for people who are basically looking for an e-book that also has additional capabilities like browsing the web and other apps like videos, pictures, music, a touch screen, Wi-Fi connectivity, etc., the iPad is a great catch and well worth spending on. On the other hand, if you want a device for professional use and work-related stuff, switching from an iPhone to an iPad may not be worth it.
