Bunk Bed Safety: Kids Bunk Bed Review

Bunk beds are one of the best things you can do for children’s rooms. Kids love sleeping in bunk beds, and there are so many ways kids can have fun with bunk beds that they just can’t with regular beds.

For example, children’s bunk beds can be turned into a castle by simply hanging a sheet over the side of the top bunk. Or maybe a battleship, or a dungeon.

And the kids can spend hours playing on the kids bunk beds and having fun.

However, there are some safety issues that you need to be aware of with bunk beds for children. Take a few simple precautions and your children should have years of fun with their bunk beds and be happy to share their rooms.

Children can fall off the top bunk when playing. Of course, a fall from the bottom bunk isn’t a big deal, it’s only 8 or 10 inches off the floor, but a fall from the top bunk is a different matter.

Make sure that any children’s bunk bed you buy has a proper railing at the top. It is also suggested that you leave a gap of no more than 3 inches between the bottom of the rail and the top of the mattress edge, as a larger gap may allow a small child to slide and possibly get caught between the railing and the mattress.

And if you already have kids’ bunk beds and have toddlers using them, it doesn’t hurt to add a few extra rails if there’s more than a 3 or 4-inch gap that a child can slide through. The top of the rails should be at least 6 inches higher than the top of the mattress.

And make sure the railings are solid and strong and cannot come off in any way. Do not use removable rails, you can put them on the bunks and you do not want them to come off. Or if you have removable rails on an existing bunk bed, secure them securely in some way.

And it is also convenient to check the slats on which the upper mattress rests. In some children’s bunk beds, these can be placed and are required to remain there under their own weight and the weight of the mattress. If a child below pushes up on the mattress, the slats can come loose and the mattress and anything else on it, such as sheets and pillows, and another child can fall onto the child below.

This can be fixed simply, just fasten the slats securely.

And make sure the mattress is the right size for the bed, with no gaps for the child to fall through – not all mattresses are the same size.

Take a few basic precautions and kids should have years of fun with their bunk beds. Good bunk beds for children allow you to accommodate 2 children in a bedroom with the maximum available space where the use of 2 single beds could cause problems.

There are bunk beds that come in all shapes and sizes, and even bunk beds with cabinets and drawers in places to add to your storage space. And kids bunk beds look great, much better than regular single beds.

So do your kids a favor and treat them to some kids bunk beds, they’ll love them. Just take a few precautions.

And bunk beds aren’t as expensive as you might imagine if you shop at the right place. The right place for cheap bunk beds is online.
