Five Great Coffee Shops and Cafes in Amsterdam – Part 2

Amsterdam is a fantastic and vibrant city and it is also the capital of the Netherlands. While it has gained notoriety for its pot cafes and lax stance on prostitution, it is also one of the oldest cities in Europe and boasts a wealth of culture. One of the best things to do while heading to one or two of the famous coffee shops for a touch of culture, great food and drink and people watching. Choose from two Red Light District locations: the first is large and bar-like, while the second is smaller and sleeker, lounge-like. This is another great spot for people watching, as it has huge glass windows that look out onto a busy pedestrian street.

With a bit of a modern art museum atmosphere, this is an unusual but charming place. While it’s easy to miss if you don’t know where it is, inside it’s spacious and comfortable. This is a pretty well kept secret, located on a not particularly touristy street that is nevertheless easily accessible from Central Station or Dam Square. One of a kind and well worth a visit!

A great little shop with beautiful views of the Warmeostraat in the Red Light District. They open at approximately 8 am and close at 1 am each night. If you’re not a big fan of trance or house music, this might not be your cup of tea, but for those who love it, it’s heaven.

Hill Street Sadness

If Baba is full, no problem, because this place is only 30 seconds ahead. It’s a great place to sit and relax, especially as the back room has lovely views across the port to Central Station. If you fancy a game of pool, head downstairs to the game room.

A little out of the way, but so worth it! The staff are usually very friendly and helpful, the sound system is good, the food and drinks are great, and best of all, you have a fantastic view of the Prinsengracht. During the summer, the front doors are thrown open and the outdoor seating imparts a glorious summer vibe.
