Hong Kong is a glamorous city that attracts both Easterners and Westerners. Arriving in Hong Kong, my colleague and I wanted to find a restaurant where we could fully appreciate the sea, like the Empire State Building in New York. At the Empire State Building, you get a panoramic view of Manhattan. Don’t get bogged down in hope, as SEVVA, a restaurant run by Bonnie Gokson, has already done so. It is located on the 25th floor of the Central Prince Building, overlooking the HSBC headquarters and Victoria Harbour, the best places in Hong Kong.
Upon entering SEVVA, you will be touched by the design of the restaurant: a work by the famous American fashion illustrator Gladys Perint Palmer at the entrance. The exquisite vaulted ceiling is designed by lighting designer Ruth McDermott herself. Works by photographer Candida Hoffe and contemporary art pieces from the London Art Gallery make the dining room stand out from all the restaurants. What makes it more special is that all the dishes are created by the mistress of the house after her experience of her travels and her daily life. For example, homemade rice in a clay pot, servants’ dishes and cakes with a new taste from friends. The menu is full of all kinds of dishes, and you will be dazzled. The menu is like the city that is a melting pot of eastern and western culture. The food from other countries is French lobster roll, cinnamon apple, fresh crab meat with spring onion and Indian dosas. This restaurant is located in one of the busiest cities in the world, while making people from all over the world feel at home.
Zense in Bangkok
It is reasonable to say that Bangkok is the cheapest mall in the world. It was somewhat planned to go shopping at the largest mall in Southeast Asia. However, I was in for a surprise when I went to enjoy Zense’s delicacies. Zense is located in Zen, a department store.
It was the sales season, so before I realized my bad stomach, I had bought a lot of things for a long time. Thinking of a Zense intro in a magazine, I decided to have dinner at this trendy restaurant on the 17th floor of Zen. I can appreciate my newly bought stuff by the way. Standing on the oval balcony, I was surprised by the sunset before my eyes. This restaurant is designed by an architect from Thailand. It costs more than 4 million dollars. The designer is inspired by 4 natural elements: soil, water, air, fire. The restaurant is equipped with 5 kitchens, offering different dishes. The White Cafe offers Thai cuisine, Gianni Italian cuisine, Kikusui Japanese cuisine, Red Indian cuisine and Zense Patisserie desserts.
While in Thailand, do as the Thais do. Therefore, I choose to eat a Thai rice dish with a mackerel. Also, I ordered a famous White-Cafe dish: a salmon. When the music played, everyone danced in the mesmerizing Bangkok night.
The view in America
Sitting in a revolving restaurant on the 47th floor of the Marriott Hotel in Time Square, I realize that the city can provide a dream for everyone.
Fortunately we reserved the seats two months ago, so we can sit by the window. The name of the restaurant is View and it offers customers the best view of New York. In addition to the famous skyscrapers, there’s the Hudson sunset, the colorful lights of Broadway, and the dazzling lights of distant New Jersey. Looking down, pedestrians and cars can be seen on the Avenue moving in an orderly fashion. This image jumps at your eyes and makes you see a vivid New York.
The dishes carry the characteristics of the New York style: the French Fried Foie Gras, the Russian Caviar, the Japanese Sushi and the Thai Curry. You will feel hungry when you see the menu. In the evening, you can order a cocktail called the Cosmopolitan at the bar. Touring with the restaurant, you get to know 100-year-old Manhattan better. It is a precious moment in my life, a moment when the American dream became a reality.
Allalin in Switzerland
Sass Fee is a well-known scenic spot for skiing, where the Allalin Snow Mountain is most popular. The highest Allalin revolving restaurant in the world is hidden here, 3462 meters above sea level.
Sitting in the restaurant, you are surrounded by endless Alpine mountains dancing in the sky. It seems that the glaciers are within your reach. People with snowboards walk to this warm little place. The corridors of this restaurant are decorated with photographs of adventures in the Alps. Then my eyes are caught by a scene: a man and a woman holding hands, walking together towards the vast and dark snowy mountain. It is the spirit of the Swiss, neither servile nor arrogant. This world-class restaurant is not used as a gimmick to attract tourists, but instead opens its arms to everyone in silence.
In Switzerland, the Wallis is known for its wine. I ordered local white wine, produced in the highest vineyard in Europe. I also ordered macaroni as a staple. They tasted very good. The restaurant provided a bowl of applesauce to pour over the Italian noodles. It is a traditional way of eating Italian noodles for people who live in the mountainous region of German-speaking areas in Switzerland. I also tried a local soup that abounds in materials such as potatoes, carrots, ham, tomatoes, rice, canned meat, cheese, etc. Outside there was white snow, while the people in the restaurant were hot. It made the Alps a warm place for me.

I always think that the tram is a means of transport full of warmth. Many clues slowed down the pace of citizens. In Melbourne, we have a trolley restaurant so you can tour while you eat. The old tram moves slowly through the drizzle. Pedestrians, cars, and Western architecture form a picture before my eyes. Little by little it becomes an old photo that recedes.
