How to connect plumbing fixtures, saving you time and money

Using pex (cross-linked polyethylene) pipes and fittings when updating your home plumbing is much easier and more affordable than using copper pipes and fittings. You won’t have to weld or deal with the heat and fumes associated with this process.

One of the most popular processes involving cross-linked polyethylene involving a proprietary product.

The process is the following:

Cut the pipe in the appropriate place with a tool designed to accomplish this task. Remember that the cuts must be square.

Attach the ring to the end of the tube where you want to attach the accessory. Make sure the end of the ring is flush with the end of the tube.

Expand the end of the tube where you want to attach the fitting with the appropriate power tool. You will not have to force the tool into the pipe. Just let the torque from the power tool do the work.

Insert the fitting into the end of the tube. Make sure the tubing is fully inserted into the fitting. The accessory will have a flange to indicate when this has occurred.

This system uses a process known as “shrinking.” This means that the connection works by using cross-linked molecular chains within the connection. When you expand the tubing and insert it into the fitting, it initially contracts the rear tubing and the ring contracts toward the tubing and forms an airtight seal.

There is no need for glue or hot welding work. The movement of the pipe is much less restrictive when considering various aspects of how a building is framed. However, you will need to consider various building codes regarding the use of this method for plumbing your drinking water, heating, and cooling lines.

These connections are very durable. Tests have shown that they can withstand up to 1,300 kilograms of force.

This system is ideal for all drinking water systems. This includes hot and cold water lines. This system is also great when considering potable water lines in the construction of a new home or small apartment complex.

The key part of this system is the expansion tools. These tools can be purchased as wireless devices. This means that you will not have to drag a power cord while you and other workers move around the project that needs the necessary plumbing.

There are many ways to complete a plumbing project in your home. Some of these projects can be quite straightforward. However, completion of more advanced projects will require a plumbing professional.
