Is There Really Such a Thing As the Flying Monkey Delta?

Flying Monkey Delta

The Flying Monkey Delta is an aircraft that could easily hold two people and it certainly looks the part. I have been looking at different models of aircraft for over a year now and the more I have seen of them the more impressed I am. In this article I want to look at whether the flying monkeys on the banner are representations of safety or not. If we look at the background of this advertisement then it will become clearer. The Flying Monkey is based in the state of Florida and flies to many places.

There is a story behind the image and it goes something like this. When they first started out many years ago there was a pilot that never flew in a cockpit. The reason being he never learned how to fly a plane and felt that safety was more important than actually flying. He never learned how to operate anything that was of any importance in aviation and once his flight went bad he never restarted it. It took him almost 30 years to finally accomplish the feat that all pilots are meant to do, which is to fly an airplane right from the ground until you can hear sirens blaring from the plane.

This pilot, during his final flight, was unable to maneuver the plane into an area that would allow him to land. As a result, he ended up smashing several windows and he ended up breaking one of the tail lights. This would have been bad enough but he also hit a few other things including a couple of police cars and a fire truck. Now if a pilot had done this when he first got his license there wouldn’t have been too much of a problem because the authorities were trained to apprehend him. However, since he was not licensed then he would have gotten into big trouble. So in essence the ad is saying that if you don’t fly in a certain airplane then you might be in trouble.

The safety aspect of the ad is certainly true. Many of the cages that the monkeys are placed into are much smaller than those used by airlines. Smaller cages mean less chance of injuries to the animal. If you happen to bump your arm against one of the bars of a smaller cage, for example, you won’t break it.

The advertisement for the Flying Monkey Delta also tells a interesting tale. After serving time in prison, David Monroe (the man who posed as a monkey in the ad) went back into the air. He was again successful and flew to New Zealand. He was arrested again though and eventually served ten more years in jail. This might make you feel safer, since a flying monkey can definitely fly, but is this story really any further than just a myth?

This is simply another ploy by Wildlife officials to get the public’s attention. They say that it is a great way for them to get closer to wildlife since most people will be much safer after they see it flying. But maybe it is more of a publicity stunt than anything else and you shouldn’t take it seriously, unless you are flying somewhere in the flying Monkey Delta, anyway.
