Make a gunslinger costume out of items from your own closet

If you were looking for some kind of gunslinger costume, you don’t have to travel that far, I bet. In fact, I also bet you can have most of the accessories you’ll need for a great gunslinger costume sitting in your own closet!

Let’s talk about that for a minute. So to start with you will need to have some simple cowboy costume basics which can be as simple as your favorite pair of jeans, black jeans are great too and a nice long sleeved button down shirt, and just about any color . will serve. The addition of a fitted vest, including a shiny pocket watch, is also a very nice touch.

Do you have a pair of chaps? If you do, then you could easily add the chaps to your outfit, with or without fringe, your choice, to look even more authentic. Other things to make your gunslinger Halloween costumes look even better are the addition of a bandana around the neck, a well-worn cowboy hat on the head, and a pair of old cowboy boots on the feet.

What other thing? Other ideas you might want to use are those jingling spurs. Add them to your boots for that dramatic “meet me at noon” entrance many gunslingers crave. The sound of spurs alone is enough to send many of us back to the old west in our minds. And if you have a duster, one of those pretty cowboy coats that almost come to the ground, don’t forget to put it on either.

Guys, another tip for you, don’t shave a few days before the Halloween party either. Remember, many gunslingers were a bit tired and worn out, so sport a bit of a beard to look even more realistic. And ladies, or others who can’t grow a beard, you can fake it using some grease paint and a stippling sponge or you can always add a nice mustache glued to the handlebars.

Lastly, don’t forget your weapon. A gunslinger’s main need was for his trusty weapon, so don’t ruin the look of your entire gunslinger costume now by just picking up any old kid’s gun! Spend a little time finding one that looks real enough (not bright colors or the wrong style) and also one that matches your size. The holsters are also a nice touch, but if it’s a push you can always tuck the weapons into your waistband.

So there you have it, you should now have almost everything you need to make your own gunslinger costume out of a bunch of items you found in your own closet. Best of all, this helps you create your own gunslinger costume for (almost) free, relatively cheap, and pretty realistic looking.
