NFL – What’s all the fuss about?

The NFL in American sports culture is second only to… well, I guess nothing. You really can’t beat the action on the gridiron on a Sunday afternoon. There are so many things that make Sundays at your favorite NFL stadium the most amazing time of the year. What sets the NFL apart? Here are some of the most notable things in the NFL.

o The NFL truly has something for everyone. Even stay-at-home moms can catch the latest soap opera by checking ESPNews during an Al Davis press conference. Where else could you see a guy who’s been dead for the last 15 years saying goodbye to someone who’s young enough to be her great-grandchild? Fans of the other AFC West teams are starting a petition to keep Al Davis in power for as long as possible. It’s one less team to worry about each year, right?

or Where else could you see two past quarterbacks from the hill like Brett Favre and Kurt Warner fight in week 4? We saw the same mix as 9 years ago, but it’s still great and was actually available to play in case one of your units stopped.

o Speaking of Arizona Cardinal quarterbacks, where else are you going to see Matt Leinart being somebody else’s wingman? That guy is so buried in the dugout they didn’t even look his way after Kurt’s sixth turnover of the game at the Geezer Bowl. Usually “quarterbacks of the future” would get some consideration in that situation, but not Matty.

o In fact, you can go to a game and get a pretzel for as low as $7. What theft! Oh wait…is that really a terrible price for a pretzel? Oh! However, they are really amazing.

o Where else can someone legally change their last name to Eight Five and not be ridiculed out of town? If he keeps playing the way he has so far this season, he might be laughed at and run out of town. Maybe those two first-round picks that could have landed him before the season don’t sound too bad, right? You’d think an 0-5 team could use a few draft picks to fill a few holes next year. Oh good. At least they have an overrated wide receiver who likes to talk a lot.

o You can tune in each and every week and be blessed with the presence of John Madden. His one-liners like “Boom!” and “Bang!” they really lend credence to his commenting skills. He’ll almost feel like he’s in the wine with the color comment from him.

o Now you have a legit excuse to invite all your friends over and grill some hot dogs. When do you get that chance again? Would anyone come if there wasn’t a game?

The reasons for entering NFL football are as numerous as the dollars in fines Pacman Jones has paid the league over the years. He enters the season now before he ends.
