Stop a dog from licking: why licking is not acceptable behavior

I still remember that as a child, I had one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. Well, now that I think about it, it’s actually not that scary. But when you are still a child, many things can easily scare you.

So what’s wrong with me? Well, basically, a dog licked me. Well, the dog certainly wasn’t aggressive. But he keeps licking me and as a child I was afraid he would bite me. Though obviously it wasn’t.

Come to think of it, I thought I was pretty dumb at the time. But there is a reason why I am telling you about this incident. We all probably know that when a dog is trying to lick you, he’s actually trying to be friendly.

So licking probably isn’t a big deal, right? It should be an acceptable experience, right? Incorrect! As a dog owner, you probably enjoy being licked by your dog, and licking is probably harmless anyway.

But just because you like your dog licking you doesn’t mean your guests will also like your dog licking it. Ultimately, not everyone in this world is a dog lover. And imagine the embarrassment you will face when your dog keeps licking and licking.

Therefore, if your dog has a licking problem, you should let your dog do the proper behavior training to train him to stop licking himself. While licking probably won’t cause any harm, it’s still not appropriate behavior.
