Taking a short vacation close to home can help you be more productive as you build your online business. I started doing this in 2007 and learned how to use time away from home more effectively, accomplish more of my biggest goals, and connect with new people I may have never met. When you’re just getting started online, you probably don’t have the time or money to take a real vacation. At least that was my experience when I started my internet business in 2006. But sitting in front of a computer for many hours every day can take its toll on you in the form of neck and back pain and a feeling of being overwhelmed. That’s when I decided to take a 24-hour break and go on a mini-vacation.
At that time I was living in the San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles. This is also only an hour from the beach in Ventura, so I went online to see what I could find. I ended up getting a room right across the street from the beach at a very fair price. I left home early one Saturday morning to drive to Ventura and then found a coffee shop where I could write something for my business. It was very calm in there, so my thoughts flowed and I mapped out new product ideas, blog posts, and more.
When I checked into my room, I was ready to plug in my laptop and get to work. At that point I realized that I could do this every two months to feel like I was going on vacation from work. I went out to a quick dinner and went back to the room to continue working.
On Sunday morning I went down to the hotel lobby to have a coffee and a pastry, and then I went back to my room to work until it was my turn to leave at eleven. I returned home at noon and full of new ideas that I was ready to implement. He had also done more work while there than he usually did in a week at home.
